March For Mumia Rally Final Day 12.9.25
The March for Mumia wrapped up after 12 days and 103-miles from Philadelphia to SCI Mahanoy in Frackville, Pennsylvania. More than 50 rally attendees marched in the sub-freezing temperatures of the final stretch before hosting a rally at the prison's entrance. Met with detractors, including incitement from pro-police agitators, the focus were the facts of Mumia Abu-Jamal's case, rather than speculation. Abu-Jamal, who turns 72 next year, is being abused by the state. His continued incarceration and neglect of crucial medical needs amounts to torture. The historic precedent of silencing his speech, is not without intent. Abu-Jamal has continued to be a productive reporter or "griot" throughout his time behind bars, penning multiple books, and hosting a regular newspaper column. Abu-Jamal's catalog of work stands as a question to the imposition of rehabilitation by the state of Pennsylvania. The dozens in attendance of the rally and those supporting the movement for Abu-Jamal's freedom collectively understand that the state of Pennsylvania cannot represent justice while ignoring his humanity.
