Dr. Ricardo Alvarez interview during 24hr Mumia vigil 6.29.26
During hour 8 of the 24-hour Mumia Vigil Marathon in front of the Octavius V. Catto statue at City Hall in Philadelphia, we spoke with Dr. Ricardo Alvarez of Parole Elder Abuse Concerns Everyone (P.E.A.C.E). Dr. Alvarez shared the reasoning behind the action, stating, "This is our space, we call it a public health liberation space since there's so much public health harms of police violence." He further explained the significance of July 3rd being declared 'Mumia Liberation Day' and highlighted the corruption that permeated the case on July 3, 1982. On this day a fabricated confession was rushed to secure a death sentence from Judge Sabo, a known racist, alongside one of the most corrupt precincts in the United States. This action and the declaration share the same mission: Demanding the immediate release of Mumia Abu-Jamal and exposing the elder abuse and medical neglect in prisons.
