"Budgets are moral documents," is a widely circulated quote often attributed to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In his case, he was referring to the unconquerable war-machine that is the United States. For us, while our annual expenditures do not even begin to come close to the $820 billion these United States deem necessary for the pursuit of happiness, our mere pocket change would be, and will be better served in the hands of those that are not war profiteers and genocidal maniacs.
Bearing with us, our business dealings with Wix, the very platform our media home is built upon, will cease by the end of 2025. Our commitments to stand as a voice of truth and in solidarity with struggle would ring hollow if they were not followed by action. And whilst it has taken time to recognize the contradiction within ourselves, the sentiment is not lost on us. To put in as plainly as possible, a Free Palestine will not come to fruition if we all do not step outside of our collective comfort zones. Wix, an Israeli-based tech company founded in 2006 does not align with our values. Wix.com is a longtime supporter of the Israeli regime, censoring employees that speak out in support of the Palestinians right to self-determination and allegedly encouraging employee to speak out in support of the government. Most notably, a Republic of Ireland based employee of the company faced firing after expressing pro-Palestine views (The axed employee was awarded a $35,000 termination suit according to the Irish Times).
Shouting loudly in the face of injustice is but only one effort and not nearly enough. While our hearts may lead, our actions must follow, and the action of divesting from an oppressive Israeli regime is critical. Divesting from the companies and "business as usual" attitudes that uphold it, is critical. Divesting from the social sphere that turns a blind eye, or plays both sides in the face of massacre is critical.
Everyday we choose who we want to be on this planet, in this universe. And in the face of more than 50,000 men women, and children, being taken from this earth, the least we can do is not participate in it. We encourage all of you to take a meaningful look and the brands and companies you employ in this web of capitalism and ask yourself, what are my dollars enabling? In the meantime, any suggestions, or tips on migrating to a new hosting-home would be appreciated.
