Photostory: The 100 Mile March to Free Mumia
Dec. 9 2025: Organizers and supporters of the most well-known political prisoner in the U.S., Mumia Abu-Jamal gathered on Morea Road in Frackville on Tuesday, to commence the final leg of their 103-mile March for Mumia. Starting in Germantown, Philadelphia on November 28, dozens have met each day to embark on a several mile protest and walk to spread the message of Abu-Jamal’s dire need for release. Abu-Jamal, who will turn 72 years old next year, has spent more that 40 years incarcerated by the state of Pennsylvania, 30 of which have been isolated in solitary confinement (a human rights crime under international law).
Despite numerous inconsistencies with Abu-Jamal’s conviction in the 1981 murder of police officer Daniel Faulker, including substantial evidence of witness tampering, mysteriously concealed case files surrounding the trial, the lack of verification on official documents and more, officials within the state and city of Philadelphia have allowed for his conviction to remain. Chief among them have most recently been the office of the “progressive prosecutor,” District Attorney Larry Krasner who has abandoned attempts at exoneration for the former member of the Black Panther Party and MOVE.
Supporters meet at the rally point on Morea Rd. and engage in brief ceremony before beginning the final journey to State Correctional Institution Mahanoy.
Engaging in united calls to Free Mumia, they begin the 3.2 mile march.
Along the way the group was flanked by elders lending aid, photographers, and passerby supporters.
As the group reached S.C.I. Mahanoy, they were intercepted by three individuals protesting Mumia’s support. Engaging in chants during the rally to draw attention and disrupt. A fourth individual approached the group during speeches and began filming in an effort to collapse the day’s agenda.
